Irvine woman prepares for the swimming challenge of a lifetime

An Irvine woman is taking on one of the most gruelling and iconic swimming challenges later this summer.

Ashleigh Seymour, 36, aims to swim the English Channel to raise money for Safe Passage, a charity that helps child refugees and vulnerable adults find safe, legal routes to sanctuary in the UK.

Lifelong swimmer Ashleigh plans to take the plunge from Shakespeare Beach and swim the 21 miles to Cap Gris Nez in France next month.

The former Greenwood Academy pupil said: “I first toyed with the idea around three years ago when I supported a friend as a crew member on her attempt to complete the swim. I made the decision to go for it around 18 months ago.
