Young channel swimmers overcome big waves, bad weather and ships to smash charity target

'We were so happy when we had finished'

A team of young swimmers battled huge waves, appalling weather and busy shipping lanes in a relay swim across the channel, smashing their charity fund raising target in the process.

The team, including two distant relatives of the first man to swim the English Channel, completed the test of endurance in a time of four seconds under 11 hours on Monday.(August 12)

The six-strong team, from Leicester Neptune Swimming Club, based at Evington leisure centre, in Downing Drive, included three below the age of 16.
