With the poetic imagination of the ancient mariner, the grey lady of Elizabeth Castle and her breakwater rise from the early morning sea like a giant aircraft carrier, not that elderly matelots, Sir Walter Raleigh or good Queen Bess had such military hardware at their disposal, but it leads us nicely into yet another tale of the open sea. Pull up a rock and I’ll point out a land far away ………………..

On Tuesday 20th July JLDSC member Alison Wood set off very excitedly from la Coupe Point at 07.08am heading for France - finally after booking her swim 4 years ago! Ali, a seasoned swimmer, was seen off by many well wishers despite the very early start. Ali's impressive swim record includes the Jersey round island swim in 1995 and the English Channel in 1997.
