Mumbai: Long-distance swimmer Aakanksha Mishra is set to tread international waters when she does a double, by swimming across The English Channel and The Strait of Gibraltar in August 2008. She is the first swimmer from Asia attempting to swim the two-way across The Strait of Gibraltar.

The English Channel (UK-France) and The Strait of Gibraltar (two way, Spain-Africa-Spain) are two of the Seven Seas, which every long distance swimmer aspires to swim. She has cherished the dream to achieve this twin feat, since her early ages.

Aakanksha, 16, in January 3-4, 2007 swam the 70-km stretch from Gateway of India to Dharamtar, Alibaug and back. Since then she continued her rigorous training to conquer English Channel and The Strait of Gibraltar.
